North Africa Youth Conference

Tunis, 23 May 2014

The young Christians in Tunisia presented a first ever Youth Conference in Tunis on Friday 23 May on using arts and media to spread the Gospel across North Africa. Their mission is as follows:

The North Africa Youth Mission is a circle of people in North Africa who are passionate about bringing the message of Jesus to those who have never heard it. We want to encourage the establishment of fellowships of His followers and see the blessings of God’s Kingdom come to the families, communities and nations where Jesus is most unknown.
In a world fascinated by entertainment, one of the most effective ways to connect with people is by engaging their imagination. The arts have already become a culturally pervasive means of communication through which “truth” is currently being received and embraced in most all cultures and generations. NAYM Arts has been raised up for such a time as this, to empower performing, technical, and visual artists to engage their creative gifts in worshipping the One True God, and bringing His Gospel to the nations. —NorthAfricaYouth Facebook

It was truly a blessing it to see all these young people from different churches prepare for this first ever event. They were so dedicated, focused and eager to have everything run as smooth as possible. Every detail was thought about, from registration, notebooks, a logo sticker, food and T-shirts for the leaders.

After great praise, worship and prayer, the conference kicked off with presentations by different speakers. Topics such as God the Creator, Holiness, Mission and Evangelism and Media application were covered. All the young people were very engaged and absorbed every single spoken word. A joy to experience!

After lunch they all divided in four groups to put their creative skills into practice and presented a drama or painting to bring the Gospel of Jesus to the audience.

This was a great success and similar conferences are planned in other North African countries as well. The vision is to see the multiplication and connectedness across the region as EACH church or fellowship in North Africa to have a media and communication network, via Facebook, Twitter etc. with the sole vision of making Jesus known. The Tunisian team consists of professionals who want to train a media team from every church in North Africa in the use of cameras, editing, web design, etc. Resources like good quality Christian videos and programs, a documentary which will help Muslims understand the history of Christianity since the first century, predating the birth of Islam, will be available to all churches in North Africa. It is all about using Media to bring the Light of God in the darkness.

It was a privilege to see the Lord working in the hearts of passionate young people. I actually have a feeling of excitement similar to the spreading of the Gospel in the 1st century. During this time, the Lord showed me a vision of somebody erecting a Bedouin tent in Tunisia with the main support pole going up. When this pole was in place, the tent spread out east and west with more support poles upholding a stretched out tent over the whole North Africa.

Yes, as Jesus said in Matthew 16:18: “… and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
