Mauritanian Refugees Return to Their Homeland

About 20 years ago many Mauritanians fled their country due to ethnic tensions and have been living in refugee camps in Senegal and Mali ever since. During 2014 the UNHCR plans to help a further 8000 of them return to Mauritania to re-settle in their homeland. Some have returned spontaneously, specially those from Mali, as Mali has become unsafe in recent years. Others have been involved in UNHCR repatriation programs since 2008. Think of the young people who were born in the refugee camps who are now returning to a homeland they have never known.
