Advent 2015 – Week 4 – Sunday

Part 2

The church fathers, many early Christians, and monks in the centuries ever since have practiced a spiritual discipline called Simple Prayer. One or two line prayers, frequently based on Scripture, were repeated over and over again for up to 30 minutes a day. Its not chanting or mindless repetition. You must really engage with your prayer each time you say it, letting its truths sink in, letting God speak to you as you say this prayer over and over. Will you try it? Pick a line from the choices below and try Simple Prayer for maybe 15 minutes today. It takes practice to make this discipline a meaningful part of your prayer life.

Try: Lord, I choose to be still and know that You are God (Psalm 46:10)

For the gift that you are to me and to the world, I thank you.
